Creating an event

The wizard, the required fields, and the two that stop people.

A step-by-step wizard: setup, poster, details, schedule, tickets, review. Each step tells the venue what is still missing before they can go on.

What the venue does

  1. Setup — the basics of the night.
  2. Poster — the image. Required.
  3. Details — title, artist, description, lineup, tags, age policy.
  4. Schedule — date and start time. Both required.
  5. Tickets — tiers, prices and quantities. Skipped if the event is free.
  6. Review — check and create.

What cannot be left out

Five things are genuinely required and an event cannot be saved without them:

  • Title
  • Description
  • Date
  • Start time
  • Poster image
  • An artist or act name

A venue that says "we do not have a poster yet" cannot create the event yet. Worth saying early so they arrive at the meeting with artwork.

Add-ons come after

Packages need an event to exist before they can be scoped to it, so they are added when editing an event rather than when creating one.

Important notes

The create-event wizard saves a draft as you go, but the poster image cannot be saved into that draft. If a venue leaves halfway and comes back, they will be stopped at the poster step and the screen will not explain why. Tell them to finish the wizard in one sitting.
