Spotly terminology
The words we use, what each one means, and the two pairs that get confused constantly.
Spotly's vocabulary is small, but a few words mean something specific. Getting these right in front of a venue owner is the difference between sounding like the product's owner and sounding like someone reading a brochure.
The two that get confused
Price vs what the venue earns
Every ticket carries two numbers. One is what the guest pays at checkout — Spotly's fee is already inside it. The other is what the venue actually earns from that ticket.
Every revenue figure a venue sees uses the venue's number. If you ever quote the guest-facing number as the venue's income, you have overstated their revenue. See Price vs what you earn.
Event promoter vs regional partner
An event promoter is a real, built Spotly feature: someone attached to a single event, with their own tracked link, a guestlist and the ability to sell at the door. Venues use them every weekend.
A regional partner — you — is not that. You find and onboard venues. The two share a word in casual conversation and nothing else. When a venue says "promoter", they mean the door person.
Everything else
| Word | Means |
|---|---|
| Venue | A place on Spotly. Every venue on Spotly is a partner venue. |
| Event | One night at a venue, with its own poster, times, tickets and tables. |
| Ticket type | A tier you can buy — Early Bird, GA, VIP. Each has its own price and quantity. |
| Ticket | One admission belonging to one guest, with its own QR code. |
| Reservation | A table booking. May be free or paid. |
| Layout | A floor plan of the room. A venue can keep up to three; exactly one is live. |
| Table | One bookable table on a layout, with its own seats and price. |
| Add-on / package | Something extra a venue sells — a bottle package, a platter. Can be tied to specific tables. |
| Offer | A discount or perk applied to a table, a date or an event. |
| Comp | A free ticket the venue issues itself. |
| Guestlist | Names a promoter adds for free entry. Each gets its own QR code. |
| Publish | Making an event buyable. Nothing sells before this. |
| Stripe Connect | The venue's own payment account, where its money lands. |
| Check-in | Scanning a guest's code at the door. |
| No-show | A confirmed booking whose guest never scanned in. |
| Manager mode | The staff view inside the guest app. |
| Surface | An optional real-dimension floor mode for venues that want automatic table arrangement. |
