Connecting Stripe, step by step

What happens on screen, what to prepare, and where people get stuck.

From the venue's settings, one action creates the venue's Stripe account and sends them to Stripe to be verified. When they come back, Spotly shows their status.

Before you sit down with them

Have the venue's representative ready with:

  • The registered business name and address
  • The company registration number
  • Who owns and controls the business
  • An ID document for the person doing it
  • The bank account details

Without these the session stalls halfway, which is a bad first experience of the product.

What the venue does

  1. Settings → Payments. It shows Not connected.
  2. Press to connect. Spotly creates the account and hands off to Stripe.
  3. The representative completes Stripe's form on Stripe's site.
  4. Stripe returns them to Spotly.
  5. Spotly shows the new status. Once Stripe has verified them, it reads Payments enabled.

They can leave and come back

Stripe's onboarding does not have to be finished in one go. A venue can stop, gather a document, and resume from a fresh link.

Connect Stripe

This video is on the recording list. Until it exists, use the steps above.

Important notes

Do not record or screenshot the Stripe form. It contains a real person's identity and banking information. If you are filming this step, cut at the hand-off and resume when they return.

Important notes

Never clear or reset a venue's Stripe account to "start again". Doing that has already left a real, orphaned Stripe account behind on a live venue. If something is wrong with a venue's account, escalate to the Spotly team rather than resetting it.

Common questions

How long does verification take?

Often minutes. Sometimes Stripe asks for more and it takes days. It is Stripe's process and Spotly cannot speed it up.

Can I do this for the venue?

No. Only their authorised representative can. You can sit with them and explain every field.

Do they need Stripe for free reservations?

No. A venue taking only free table bookings can operate without connecting Stripe at all.
